Welcome, and thank you for your interest in the William and Mary Choir. Prospective members are invited to email our our Director, James Armstrong (firstname.lastname@example.org; 757 221-1085) or our President, Tess Kendrick (email@example.com) for more information about the Choir and the audition process. The Choir rehearses Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 3:30 to 5:30 in Ewell Hall 151 during the academic year, and prospective students are welcome to visit. Please email the Director or President in advance.
The next auditions for the W&M Choir (MUSC E04), Women’s Chorus (MUSC E05) and Botetourt Chamber Singers (MUSC E07) will be held from Sunday, August 26th through Thursday, August 30th, 2018. Students interested in auditioning for the Botetourt Chamber Singers must complete their audition no later than Tuesday, August 28th.
Membership in these choirs is open to any student, and academic credit is given for participation (1 credit per semester). New members of these ensembles are selected only at the beginning of the fall semester as membership is considered a full year’s commitment.
Audition sign-ups and further information about the choral program will be posted in the Music Building (Ewell Hall) outside the choral rehearsal room (Ewell 151). The approximately eight-minute audition will consist of vocalization, sight reading and a short conversation about your background and interest in music. A single audition allows you to be considered for any or all of the three choirs. You will have the opportunity on your audition card to indicate the group(s) in which you are interested. You are not required to prepare an audition piece but are welcome to perform a song of your choosing if you wish. For further information please contact Dr. Armstrong, Director of Choirs (757 221-1085, firstname.lastname@example.org).
Registration: Since all the departmentally-sponsored choirs (Choir, Botetourt Chamber Singers and Women’s chorus) are auditioned, it is not possible for prospective members to register for these choirs in advance of the beginning of classes. Following auditions, all those who are offered and accept membership in the Choir will be given an instructor override to register. Those individuals then have until the end of the drop/add period to register themselves (drop/add lasts for about a week and half at the beginning of classes). For now, if you are interested in membership you should keep the class time slot for Choir open (MWF 3:30-5:30) in your schedule pending the results of auditions.
